Prize
for Fiction
We are thrilled to host our global writing contest, The Varnish Prize for Fiction!
In 2025 we sought submissions of the most compelling, formally-inventive and vital unpublished short fiction. Submissions were open to everyone, but judges selected in accordance with Varnish Online’s mission to highlight emerging writers and early career voices.
All selections were made by the Varnish editorial team and all eligible submissions were read in their entirety.
First Place received $350, Second Place received $100 and Third Place received $50.
